Adventurer 2

 Overview of class.

Welcome to Adventurer 2. We are a lower Key Stage 2 class.  Steph is our Teacher. Aprille is the TA. Alex, Dani and Jackie are the ISA's.

Spring 2:

Our class have been looking at:

English:

This half term in English, the children have been learning all about spring. We have read a range of spring-themed books including Abracadabra, It’s Spring!, Finding Spring, Caterpillar in Spring, and We’re Going on an Egg Hunt. The children have sorted objects into “spring” and “not spring” categories, matched adult animals with their young, and taken part in a spring walk to spot seasonal changes. They also enjoyed an Easter egg hunt, searching for the patterned eggs hidden around the outdoor area.

 Maths:
This half term in maths, the children have explored height, length and time through simple, practical activities. They compared heights using Jack and the Beanstalk, sorted and built beanstalks from shortest to tallest, and talked about who or what is taller. They learned about time through Five Minutes’ Peace by ordering routines and using timers to experience short and long intervals. They also compared length by making long and short playdough snakes, moving their bodies to show long and small shapes, and building tall and small towers with blocks.

Science:

This half term in science, the children have been learning about teeth, exploring what we use them for and how to keep them clean and healthy. They have discussed different types of teeth and why brushing is important, and have also begun learning about the digestive system, understanding how our bodies break down food. Later in the term, we will be learning about food chains, exploring how plants and animals depend on each other for food.

Topic:

This half term in topic, the children learned about the Great Fire of London through simple, hands‑on activities. They listened to an easy version of the story, created warm‑coloured fire collages, built Old London streets with blocks, and enjoyed bakery role‑play linked to Thomas Farriner. They also explored water play to learn how people helped put the fire out, dressed up as firefighters, and played with themed sensory trays. We also talked about how firefighters keep us safe, with ideas linked to a possible fire engine visit.

Forest Schools:

This half term in Forest School, the children have explored our local area and observed how it changes during spring. They have also linked their outdoor learning to our Great Fire of London topic by building Old London houses and discussing how they burned in 1666, with a campfire planned for the final week to bring this learning to life. Throughout the sessions, the children have enjoyed exploring different outdoor textures and natural materials as part of their sensory play and investigation.

Summer 1:

Next half term, the children will learn that we need light to see, how shadows are formed, and how to stay safe in the sun. They will explore sound, discovering how vibrations make sounds, how sound travels, and how pitch and volume can change. In geography, they will use maps, Google Maps, and BeeBots to explore the local area, compare it to another place such as the seaside, learn simple compass directions, and investigate map symbols. They will also use maps and compasses to create and follow simple routes around school.
