Discoverer 2

Class overview

Welcome to Discoverer 2. We are an upper Key stage 2 class. Our class teacher is Vicki. Our teaching assistant is Helen. Dawn and Louise are our ISAs.

Autumn 2:

In Literacy we have been learning about different types of letters. We have written formal and informal letters including letters of complaint, excuse letters and letters to our friends. We have sent letters to teachers and our headteacher.

In Maths we have been learning about addition and subtraction using columns and having to exchange 10’s and 1’s to find the correct answer. We are also learning about measure. We have all been measured to see how tall we are.

We continued to use counters and unifix cubes to support learning.

In science we have been learning about Forces. We experimented what objects would be pushed or pulled. We looked at Friction using different surfaces on a ramp and a toy car to see which created the most friction and which one the least.

When learning about gravity we wrapped a fresh egg in different materials to see which one offered the best protection when the egg was dropped from a height. We made parachutes to learn about air resistance. We have really enjoyed this area of our learning.

Our topic this term is, The history of coal Mining in Britain. We are really enjoying this topic. We had a former miner come in to school to talk to us about life as a miner and show us some artifacts he had collected. We made our own mine using the tables and material and found facts about mining.

We have been doing gymnastics in PE creating our own routine.

In PSHE we have been working as teams to complete tasks.

Forest schools has been lots of fun too. We have regularly visited Marquis Drive with Discoverer1 to build on friendships, play games and den building. We especially enjoy the hot chocolate and biscuits before we return to school.
