Discoverer 2

Class overview

Welcome to Discoverer 2. We are an upper Key stage 2 class. Our class teacher is Vicki. Our teaching assistant is Helen (Monday to Thursday) and Jo L (Friday).  Dawn and Louise are our ISAs.

Spring 2:

Discoverer 2’s topic this term has been ‘The Egyptians’. We have really enjoyed learning about how they lived. We made pyramids using paper and sand.  We looked at some Egyptian artifacts which were very interesting. We became Pharaohs, decorating our own head dress.

In science we have been learning about changing Materials. We tried to turn ice, toast and sand and water back to its original state. We found that only the ice could be returned to ice after melting. We then experimented mixing substances and then seeing if they could be returned to how they were. We also learned that this was very difficult to do.  We tested paper in different forms to see how much weight it could hold. We learned that a pile of papers could take to most weight.

In English we have been learning poetry. WE have read different types of poetry and performed one for our class. We read different poems and had to decide what we thought of them and why.

Also, in English we have been studying statements, questions and exclamations. Learning what is different between them.

In maths we have been doing division and multiplication and practicing our times tables. We have used counters and arrays to help us learn them.

We have celebrated World Book Day, dressing up as our favourite characters.

Summer 1:

Our topic next term is ‘Anglo Saxon Settlements’.
