Explorer 5
Welcome to Explorer 5. We are a Key Stage 1 class. Vicky is our class teacher. Julie is the TA. Lauren and Emma are the ISAs. We welcome Lauren to our class team.
Spring 2:
In English this half term we have explored the book ‘Play hide and seek with the Dinosaurs'.
We have enjoyed many activities including exploring dinosaurs prints in paint and playdough, using brushes to dust off sand and find the dinosaurs fossils, and small world play.
In phonics we have continued to focus on set 1 sounds (letters m,a,s,d,t) and working towards individual targets. The children have also been working on using PECS and communication/ALD boards.
The focus in maths has been number, exploring the concept of more. We have enjoyed filling containers and adding more. We have also used blocks, bricks, cars and animals to look at comparisons of which set had more.
The theme for our topic was “Who Put the Colours in the Rainbow?”. The children have enjoyed mixing, naming and painting with a wide range of colours and exploring colour through creative and sensory play. They also enjoyed making a colourful fruit kebab in cookery.
Learning Outside the Classroom sessions with Pam, continued on Monday’s. We have investigated the outdoors through play, using water play, sand, soil, paint and lots of messy play. The children have also enjoyed accessing the sensory garden and outdoor gym equipment on the field. Please continue to ensure their waterproofs, wellies and change are clothes are in school on Monday.
