Explorer 1 Class 

Overview of class

Welcome to Explorer 1. We are a mixed Early Years/ Year One class. Our Teachers are Jodi (Mon - Wed) and Michelle (Wed - Fri). Our Teaching assistant is Debbie.  Natalie and Cheryl are our ISAs. 

Autumn 2:

This half term our topic has been ‘Celebrations’ We have explored a variety of celebrations including bonfire night, Diwali, birthday’s and Christmas. We have completed a range of activities including making pictures with brushes, glitter and hands. The children have had opportunities to explore lots of sensory activities such as flour, icing sugar, cereal, leaves and tactile materials. We have enjoyed cooking sessions making biscuits, cakes, tasting a variety of foods including fruits, cakes and vegetables.

Explorer 1 have also enjoyed lots of themed activities at Forest School such as fireworks spray and stamp painting, making bird feeders with worm/spaghetti play, snow and ice play with gloop and snow dough and exploring the outdoor Forest school area.

In maths we have been looking at ‘colour’ and ‘the same’. The children have explored many different activities including matching exactly the same, same colour, same objects including finding the same pictorially. A variety of activities have be used including small world, blocks, Duplo, share bears and playdough.

In phonics we have completed set 1 sounds focusing on letters m,a,s,d,t. The children are also working hard on communication using TOBI’s, PEC’s, ALD Boards and communication books.

Spring 1:

Our topic next half term is ‘tell me a story’. We will be looking at ‘The Three Little Pigs’, ‘The Bear Hunt, ‘ The Gingerbread Man’ and ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’.

Reminders:

Please remember to label all of your child’s belongings.

As it is winter please make sure you wear a warm winter coat and have a hat, scarve and gloves which are labelled with your name.

P.E is on Monday mornings, please come into school in PE clothes.
